The longest month of the year is now behind us and with that there’s a promise of spring and a sense of romance about right now. And, as always there are some other events taking place around us this month that might just suit for your social media calendar in the weeks ahead.
If you prefer video to text, scroll to the end for a version you may prefer!
The Six Nations – 1st February: kicking off with Wales v England followed by Ireland v Scotland, for the next six weeks there will be a lot of rugby talk and depending on your interest there are opportunities across many businesses to incorporate it into your social media not least in wishing your team well. Whilst pubs and hotels will see a boost in business, a simple giveaway that a couple of businesses have is a rugby ball when you purchase a specific product.
World Nutella Day – 5th February: love it or hate it, Nutella is one of those tastes that’s loved the world over by young and old alike and each year it seems this day is being embraced even more enthusiastically. How about a competition using Nutella if you’re in the food/hospitality sector?
Clean Out Your Computer Day – 10th February: de-clutter the technology in your life. The obvious connections would be for those in IT or software but it could also be something support employees such as VAs or coaches can encompass into their work too.
Safter Internet Day – 11th February: an EU-wide campaign to make the web a safer place this is a day where there are many options for businesses to engage with their community, not least sharing some information that might just come in useful for their audience. Find out more at webwise.ie
Valentine’s Day – 14th February: single or coupled up, this is a day that you can’t miss as just about every industry does what they can to cash in on this day of romance. There are of course some businesses that more naturally lend themselves to promotions such as the hospitality or retail sectors but you can ‘share the love’ with something as simple as a giveaway, just make it appropriate to your business.
Singles Awareness Day – 15th February: yes this is a new one for us too, a day to celebrate all that’s wonderful about being single which originated in Brazil where Valentine’s Day isn’t celebrated in February but instead in June we think this is one that will catch on!
Random Acts Of Kindness Day – 17th February: kindness costs nothing and perhaps we could all do with a reminder of this more often than on a dedicated day. We can see this as an option for all sorts of businesses whether it’s for your external social media or just within the office.
Drink Wine Day – 18th February: most of us won’t need to hold off for a dedicated day to enjoy a glass or two but this is a day to remind us that in moderation it’s not all bad is it 😉
World Yoga Day – 22nd February: increasingly popular for mental as well as physical health, the idea of a day to celebrate it is the ideal opportunity for those in related fields to run a special class, invite new members or just to enjoy everything that’s wonderful about yoga whichever style is your preference.
World Bartender Day – 24th February: often unappreciated, those wonderful people who take care of us as we’re out enjoying ourselves. If you’re in hospitality today could be an ideal day to give them a shout-out.
Levi Strauss Day – 26th February: chances are just every single one of us owns some jeans, quite likely at some point some by Levis too. Levi Strauss himself was born on this day in 1829 in Bavaria in Germany moving to California with his family when he was 18. In 1870 when denim material purchased at his family business by a tailor called Jacob W Davis designed as workwear became the first pair of jeans, Levi Strauss & Co came about and a legend was created. A day for those in the clothing industry to celebrate denim appropriately we think!
World NGO Day – 27th February: a relatively new date to the calendar, originating in 2010 in London and declared a date of note by the UN, EU and other leaders across the world in 2014 this is a day to commemorate and celebrate the superb work these organisations do across the world.
Digital Learning Day – 28th February: a very positive day to end the month, it’s becoming increasingly important regardless of your business to have some sort of digital know-how so make today you look into how you or your team can learn a little more. And if you’re in the business of education it’s an ideal opportunity to be a little generous with your offering?
Bachelors Day – 29th February: the extra day we get just every four years falls this year in 2020 and has its origins right here in Ireland where Saint Brigid (who has her own day of celebration on 1st February) is rumoured to have struck a deal with Saint Patrick. She is said to have complained that women had to wait too long for men to propose and he gave permission for women to initiate a dance or propose a marriage every leap year. It’s an interesting one that you could have a bit of fun with if it’s appropriate.
So whilst there are other events happening around us in February, these are some ideas that we can see working well for a selection of businesses for those days when you just need something a little different to include in your social media content this month.
